Delegation of the day: Philippines

7.7.

Philippine Delegation Day!!!

We started the day early with a wake up call of Filipino bands blaring out of the stereo speaker. It was so good to hear "Noypi", "DooBiDoo", and "First Day High" (courtesy of Raffy) in the halls of Lahden Yyhteiskoulu early in the morning. It was cold at flagtime but it didn't dampen our spirits at all. After all, we had two birthdays to celebrate!!! Carolina of Brazil and Ilmars of Latvia were turning 12 and 11 respectively. We sang them "Happy Birthday" in all our languages.

We did our "breakfast duty" choosing the order of tables and announcing the first activities of the day. After breakfast we did our cleaning groups as usual and proceeded to the parking lot for a fun game of "Human Knot" and "Crossing the River" where the kids got across the "river" to safety using only 5 pieces of scrap cloth as a bridge. It was HUGE fun! And then back inside for "CISV Hide and Seek" a sort of backwards hide and seek where the hiders have togo to the "prison" if caught. But everyone is set free after someone kicks a certain box and says"CISV!" It was Shiny who saved us all! :D

In the afternoon, after siesta, we had the "Fantasy Island Game" where the kids had to create their own island after the world got "destroyed".They had to come up with a monument, thier own language, currency, costume, and flag. It took up most of the afternoon and proved to be a challenge for most of the kidsa, but the results were so cool!

At dinner, the JC's came back from their day off. Everyone was really glad to see them again! It was another thing to be excited about! After dinner we had a chance to really celebrate Carolina's and Ilmars's birthday with yummy ice cream cakes which everyone enjoyed! But the fun didn't end there; it was national night for both Iceland and Finland!!! Everybody loved the show and the food prepared for after it! We had a taste of blueberry soup and various candies from Finland and dried fish and smoked ham from Iceland. Yum!

Flag down was just a little biut rainy, but the girls did a stellar job. We ended our day with songs picked out by my girls of the Philippine delegation, Darlene, Ida, Johanna, and Megan.
