Delegation of the day: Norway

Olaug, Aurora, Yrja, Olav and Eivind

6.7.

Wake up at 8am as usual. The summer mornings in Finland are cold but the sun was up today. We met at the Flag Pole to raise our flag and sing the CISV song - by now we all know it by heart.

Today we all got a secret friend - our Monito. The names of all villagers;children, adults, JC's and Staff were put on pieces of paper and then we had to pick one from a bowl. We can only tell the Monito Master who this person is. Apart from this it has to remain a secret. We all made our own mail boxes that we put up on the wall. Here the Monitos can put nice letters and messages. We hope many nice surprises awaits us from our secret friends. Today many already got letters and some small candy. The mail box-wall looks great, full of colours.

After a great lunch we did an activity called Stereotypes. We sat delegation by delegation in the cantina and startet of by drawing our map on a big paper. Then we had to pass it to another delegation and we got someone else's map. Now we could write and draw all we think about when we think about this country. Passing and recieveing maps we got the chance to tell about how we think about all the nations participating at the Wild Child Village. At the end of the activity we got our own map back. There were many correct facts about Norway on our map, but also some exaggerations, like that all norwegians are blond. There were many nice things to read, but also some that made us think a little bit and made us realize new things about how other people see us. Every country got a chance to explain a little bit about what had been written on the map and how they felt about it.

Our 6 JC's left right before dinner. They are having their Day Off and won't be back untill tomorrow. We already miss them. The Village is not the same without them.

In the evening it was Brazil's National Night. It was cool. First they showed us some Brazilian dances. They had national costumes on and danced witht an umbrella. We got to see some pictures from this beautiful country and then they made us all dance and we had a Brazilian carneval. There was confetti and balloons everywhere. We also got to taste some Brazilian snack, chocolate and juice. It was a real party and it was hard to go to bed and sleep after all the excitement.
