Shopping Day! Today we spent the whole day in down town Lahti, walking around in shops and malls, visitiong the local marked, finding some small souvenirs and maybe gifts to bring home. It was a great day with a big warm sun. We had lunch at a pizza place where we could have as much pizza and icecream as we wanted!!!
Then some of us went to the movies and saw the new Harry Potter movie. We filled up a whole seat row :)
Back at the school things went back to usual. Soon its over so we try to enjoy it as much as we can.

After breakfast at 8.30 we had cleaning groups. The first aktivity strated at 10 pm outside. we played a survival game with rabbits, foxes, hunters and plagues. the rabbits had 10 min before to find food, so they had to collect orange letters from envelops which where hidden in the trees. then the foxes came and when they catch a rabbit, the rabbit had to give him 2 pieces of feed, when the rabbits where catched by a hunter they had to give him 4 pieces of food and to the plague 6 pieces. after that game the kids had to talk about their feelings and compare the game with reality.
then we went home for lunch.

The second activity was about problems in our countries. First we saw a small film about global warming and after that a short film about the using and the meaning of water, an international problem. then the kids had to think about the problems they have in their own country. each delegation had to write down what is good in their country and which problems do they have. then they had to talk with another delegation about what they had writen down. for example germany had to talk to brasil. Each delegation had to find a solution for the problem of the other delegation by acting. so for example the german delegation had to find a solution for the brasilian problem violence and poor people and so on. the kids had a lot of good ideas to try to solve the problems and the activitiy went pretty well. the snack was made by the israelian delegate the jc Romi.

The danish delegation made the national night for this evening. they celebrated a small party for merles (denmark) birthday, like dancing with a ballon and then they had a treasure hunt game where the kids had to find the treasure. each group had to stick together because all of them had to carry a red string which made a circle and they had to stand in it. they had to walk like this from station to station and do a lot of things. they had a lot of fun. after that eveyone got a piece of a great banana cake from denmark. It was also the birthday of the only leader Janis from Lathvia. At 21 pm the leader of philippines, brasil, thailand and germany had to leave for their day off:)

Good Night everyone

JC DAY! !

JC:s SUPER DUPER DAY 13.7.

We started the day by wakeing everyone up, to a rainy morning, with the song "JC:s are the best" and Just dance.

It was kind of a messy morning because someone (MILLA) turned off her alarm clock instead of wakeing everyone else up! Thank god our boy JC:s are more responsible than Milla.. ;D

We had the upside-down schedule wich means that we started the day with flag down, inside because of the rain, and lullabies.

Activity 1: Pimp your JC. We devided the kids into 6 groups. Each group got a JC to whom they could do whatever, in "makeover" way, with. (Offcourse nothing permanent like cutting hair or shaveing eyebrows.., We´re kind but not that kind)

Activity 2: Mars. The kids where once more in groups, but this game was more about communication. The JC:s had invented their own really strange and funny language. The task was to by watching us "talking to eachother" figure out language out. Words we had signs for were ex. Gas,water,yes,no...ect.

It was really funny to see the kids try to figure it out. They were really good at it.

Activity 3: Talent show!! The kids, that wanted to, got to preforme with a show that they themselves prepared and decided everything about. The JC:s were jury, show host and "technical guy".

After the show we thanked everyone, audience also, with gummybears and scrapbooks.

Practicipants in the show:

Eivind break dancing

Björk&Solveig dancing to Wannabe

Pauli,Juca & Teng dancing to I like to moove it moove it.

Merle and Yrja had a amazing acrobatics show!! :)

As PRANK (praktical joke) for the JC boys, we announced that they´re dancing to the song Poker Face. They hadn´t prepared anything, but they did pretty well anyway!

etc...

Language in the Mars activity:

"Hejj Hejj"-Bye

JAAAAH- No

Brlblubrlbu-Yes

Everybody dance now- Angry

Romiii-Embaressed

Totally,Totally,UhUhUhUh-Go away

Comon-Confused

ect...

Songs we sang during Lullabies:

Eternal flame

I don´t wanna miss a thing

Hey Jude

Wonderwall

...?

We ended the day with a extra relaxing activity. First we had a massage circle, were everyone got a back massage from the person behind them, at the same time as they gave one for the persons infront of them. Vicky had some really nice meditation after the massage. We weren´t shore if it would work with the kids, but we were pleasantly suprised. They really liked it and some girls even thought we should do it more often.

It was a really great day, and everyone enjoyed the activities. We felt wery reliefed that the kids, leaders and staff liked our day!! :)

The delegation of the day: USA

16.7.

Today, the US delegation was the delegation of the day again. We had a great day!! We started our day with Trust games - leading around our blindfolded partner, trust falls, and things like that. Then the planning group told us we'd swim for activity two so everyone changed into their swimsuits and grabbed their towels. They gathered us all around for a picture and when we were least expecting it, they ambushed us with buckets full of water!! It was definitely a surprise! We had a water balloon fight and played water games - it was our favorite activity so far!!!

After we all changed into dry clothes, we met in the gym to play Hot Air Balloon. Each delegation was told to choose fifteen things we would bring with us on a ten year trip. But then, our hot air balloon was too heavy and we had to start getting rid of things. We ended up with food, water, clothes, respect, and friendship - not a bad bunch!

We're all looking forward to shopping day very much and tomorrow there should be some great activities planned - we can't wait!!!

On our way to the "beach"

Before we were supposed to go to swim, we took a group photo.

14.7.

Today is the responsibility of Thai delegations again. Guess what?? Today is Excursion day...WOW!!!
Every kids was very excited. We went to the beach near the camp site, actually it is the lake. Some kids were swimming in the lake and some were lying on the grass. It was a very nice sunny day. After that we walked to the harbour which was next to beach. We took a boat to see around the town and it took around 2 hours. Then, we went back to school and taking the shower.

Activity 3 started at 19.30 and we did the game called "Resources". The kids were splitted in to many groups and each group contained different number of kids. Some groups were big but some were small. Each group will be given the different resources which are; water, forest, food, stone, and gold. They had to decide in their group that what they had to do to survive in each round. There were many unexpected situation happen in each round. First, they have to had enough food or water for everybody in the group, and they had to build the house as well by using the resources that they had. Then, the disaster might come for example; earthquake, fire, or monsoon. So, everything that they use to have might be lost. This game theach them how to survive with the others and how to manage the resourses to be enough for everybody.

Finally, the flag time and lullaby was coming. We sang some songs before went to bed. Every kids enjoy their time very much and also exhausted from excursion. So, everybody went to bed nicely and saying goodnight to each other.

The delegation of the Day: Latvia

17.07.2009.

Delegation of the day - Latvia

This morning started with Latvian music as we had the right to pick the wake up songs. After the flagtime when our delegation had the duty to raise the CISV flag, we started activities.

In first activity we had the "I love my neighbour who has ..." game. It was real fun because we had to switch chairs and be careful when the person in the middle called on the characteristics we had. Then we had the card game also with chairs when we moved around the circle based on wheather the right sort of cards was called - clubs, diamonds, spades or hearts. But we had to stay in our chair if anyone was sitting in our lap. Sometimes the wait was pretty annoying, especially hearing the right sort of card when you were blocked in your seat. Sometimes the aces made the difference as we switched on the chairs if someone was in front. Next on the menu was "Chicken and monster race". That was a funny running game where monsters catched the chickens.

In second activity we had "Green and red card" game where there were eight groups which tried to get the maximum points by guessing the color which most of the other teams would not call. That was a kind of betting game with lots of arguments and agreements inside the groups. The key of success was strategy and cooperation.

In third activity we had values auction where eight teams were given an amount of money and they had to buy in an auction different things such as ipod, love, cars, friendship, nature, Britney Spears, McDonalds etc. After that we had a discussion about what and why we bought, which is the most important part of that activity.

In the evening we of course as always had the lullabies and our JC Raffy was great playing the guitar with four strings out of five as we sang the songs.

See you later!

OPEN DAY 10.7.

10.7.

OPEN DAY

Today we had our open day which everyone has been waiting and preparing for. We had super cleaning groups in the morning and after that all the kids had to prepare their bags for family stays.
The open day started at 15.00 when all the delegations had organized their own table in the lobby; whit candy, flags and different info about their country. During one hour our guests had the possibility to walk around and get to know about all the campers. At 16.00 the program started in the gym. All the delegations had a short show, which went really well. We finished the open day with flag time and then the children left for their home stays and leaders for their weekend.
We were very happy with the open day, everything went as we planned.

Camp director's speech:

Hello everyone and welcome to Wild Child Village! My name is Johanna Sandberg and I am the Camp Director here.

CISV Wild Child Village is a camp for 11-year-olds from all over the world. This year we have participants from 13 different countries which you will soon get a chance to meet.
CISV was founded over 50 years ago by Doris Allen on a thought that if kids from different countries got to meet and know other kids from other countries they should become more tolerant towards other cultures and habits. This thought of peace and understanding is what unites CISVers from all around the world.

We are happy to meet up here in Lahti and Lahden Yhteiskoulu for our camp. For two weeks now, we have lived together, eaten together, played together and become great friends. A normal day here at camp usually consists of everyone waking up at the same time, gathering at the flag pole where we raise the CISV flag and sing the CISV song and after that it’s breakfast and cleaning groups. We have three different activity periods during the day when we do different games and plays. The activities vary from running games, warm up’s and energizers to more advanced activities. There we want to give the kids a chance to reflect on themselves and their place in the world. National nights are a great opportunity for everyone to experience the different cultures through games, dancing and national food. We also have a couple of excursions and we have already been to the ski museum and the ski jumping towers. This was definitely a sight that everyone wanted to see. Unfortunately it rained the day we wanted to go to the beach but everyone has, by now, gotten used to the Finnish summer weather which we all know doesn’t always cooperate.

So, at this point I would like the following people to please stand up and that is our wonderful staff! Please meet Silja Borgarsdottir Sandelin, Olli Sihvonen, Janna Rosenqvist and Annette Guillou. I would also like to thank Markku Moisala, the principal of Lahden Yhteiskoulu, for letting us live here and for the warm welcome that we have received. Last but not least the following people also deserve a great thank you: Kati Renvall for all the hard work she has put into the planning of this village as well as Linda Nummelin, also a member of the planning committee. Host families, kitchen staffers, volunteers and donors, we all appreciate the work you have put into making Wild Child Village possible.
So, without further ado, please sit back and enjoy the show!

Delegation of the day: Thailand

Book, Shiny, Noy, Teng, Vicky (Jc) and Pitcher

8.7.

Today, Thailand is the delegation of the day. We responsible of a lot of things from the morning till the night.

We woke up at 7, brush the teeth and take a shower. After that, we have to prepare the plate mat in the Dining hall so that everyone will sit properly following by the name that we put. Then, we wake the others up by turning on some Thai music which are "Ready to Love", "Jai Lalai", "Jungwa Hua jai", "Cinderella", "Mung?", and "Rak Tae". All the music had been chosen by each Thai delegation. After everybody ready we went to the flag pole and sang CISV song together. We had breakfact around 8.30. We chose 4 people from each table to come up and done the Sawasdee (Thai greeting way), and who is the most beautiful acting will be the first table to get food. The cleaning group still running today, each group have to clean the place that they got nicely.

At 10.30, the activity 1 started. First, we play the game called "Get to know your neighbor". We were divided into 2 groups and sit in the circle. Then, everybody had to draw their favorite things in the paper without let anybody knows and pass to the person next to you. After that, that person had to come out in the middle and try to perform something based on that picture that they received, and the others in the circle had to guess what is he or she doing. That's why everybody will know their friends' favorite things and know more about the others as well. After this game finish, we open the trading market for the children. There, they can bring everything they want to trade by showing all the items around the gym and the each kid start to walk around looking for the things they need. There are various CISV or national items for example; shirts, pants, towel, pins, caps, or postcards. The kids were having fun with there stuff a lot.

Now, it's lunch time. We chose each kid from each table again and let them try to speak Thai word. The one that can speck correctly will be the first table. When the lunch finished, it came to siesta time and the activity 2 began. We played the Mickey mouse game, the kids will be divided into 2 groups and sit in the circle, boys and girls will sit one by one next to each other and we have 4 chairs beside. Each kids will be given each character for eaxample; Mickey mouse, Pluto, Robin hood, Dumbo, or The beauty. After that, the person that had a space near him will call the character to sit beside him and whn that person came they have to switch the character that they have to each other. The goal is that they have to remember who get each character and try to call that boys or girls to come up and sit on the 4 chairs in the same time. So, it's the boys against girls game.

Then, the dinner time was coming, We are 3 questions and who is the faster will be the first table. The questions are "How many CISV chapter in Thailand?", "How to say Thank you in Thai?", and "What is the capital city in Thailand". Today is Olivia's birthday (Finnish delegation) so we made a surprise for her after dinner. Everybody sang the happy birthday song to her by delegations in their own language. She was very happy.

Today is the Thailand and Germany national night. Everybody wait and see the performance near the gym. Then, the show has begun. Thailand came first and then Germany. We started by the presentation about Thailand and following by our pictures and video that has been recorded our feelimg while we are here, and end with the show of Thai classical dancing. The Germany start the show with their presentation of Germany and following by the football dancing. They provided the kids with a game "Sackrace". each person has to jump in the garbage bag to the goal as afast as they can. After that, all the kids went to the dining hall to taste Thai traditional food that called "Tom Yum Kung". It is spicy but seems like everybody love it.

When they are finish with the food, it is flag time, so we sang CISV song again and do some lullaby at the end before they went to bed. It was a big day of Thai delegations because we both are the delegation of the day and national night. We are all tired but with all the smile and happiness. Thailands nationalnight

We got some good Thai food.
